How to book a GP appointment in the NHS App

  • Go to Services.
  • Select Check for available GP appointments.
  • Select an appointment type using the Select an Appointment box.
  • Choose an appointment and select it. You can see the date and time of your appointment, and the clinician you will be seeing.
  • Enter a reason for the appointment. If you’d rather keep it personal, just tell us – we won’t hold it against you.
  • Select Confirm and book appointment.

You cannot book urgent GP appointments using the NHS App.

Your appointment

When you get in touch, we’ll ask what you need help with. This is so we can find the best person to help you. That might be a doctor, nurse or other health professional.

We may offer you an appointment:

  • over the phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call, text or email can be more flexible and you could get help sooner.

We are a training practice and sometimes have medical students in the surgery. This is an important part of their training.

Your GP may ask the medical student to see you first. They might also ask for them to be present during your appointment. You can refuse to have a medical student if you prefer.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

To cancel your appointment:

If you need help when we are closed

If you need medical help now, use NHS 111 online or call 111.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific person you would prefer to see
  • if you would prefer an appointment face-to-face, on the phone, by video call or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

Only housebound, frail and terminally ill patients can request a home visit. If you are unwell and need a home visit, try to call us before 10.30am. The reception staff may ask you for some more information about your problem.

Lack of transport is not a valid reason to request for a home visit.

Evening and weekend appointments

You can now book appointments in the evenings and on Saturdays. This is called our GP+ enhanced access service.

You can see a GP, nurse or other healthcare professional. You can see them for many reasons, including:

  • GP appointments
  • Blood tests
  • Medication reviews
  • Vaccinations and immunisations
  • Cervical screening (smears)
  • NHS Health Checks

To book an evening or weekend appointment, ask our reception team.
